Sad, but true story ...
This poem (my first for 2007) is based off of inspiration from an actual event that happened. A friend of mine lost the love of his life to death. It's a devastating situation, and many of us have no idea how it feels. So all I can do for him is pray. I wrote this several days after I found out the tragic news. It is told from the point of view of the guy.
Gone Too Soon
You were gone too soon.
I can't believe it's true.
I guess God had some special plans for you.
Now I'm here all alone
Trying to work it on my own
As I cry and stare at your brand new tombstone.
I know I'm not an angel,
And I know I'm not a saint
But I'm trying to to my best to keep it cool and not faint.
We were both so young.
The days we had were so much fun.
I truly believe that you would be the one.
The one to carry my love,
The one to carry my name ...
But without you here, things just ain't been the same.
If there's one thing that
I've learned from all this
It's that your whole presence will truly be missed.
I know I have to move on ...
It's tough even to try.
I'm still sitting here thinking, "God, why'd she have to die?"
You've left behind
An intense legacy
Yet I still keep thinking, "Why couldn't it have been me?"
But like I said before,
I know God has a plan.
I don't know what it is, and I don't understand.
But what I do know is
My love never went away ...
From the first day we met, to your last dying day.
Even though physically
You are gone ...
The memories we shared will live on and on.
And though your death
Has torn me apart,
I will always keep you inside of my heart.
